Onboard Recording

Adding Onboard recording to your service plan allows your camera to capture 24/7 continuous recording by using a high-quality SD card designed for surveillance. Our standard option uses a 128GB SD card but you can upgrade to the maximum storage of 256GB. The original date recorded is retained until the card is full and then the oldest data is automatically deleted to make room for new recordings. Recorded video is encrypted and can only be viewed when the SD card is in the camera that recorded the video. You can view the recorded video on your local network or remotely using a computer, smartphone, or tablet.

FAQ

How far can a wireless security camera transmit?

A wireless security camera requires a plug to get power, and a WiFi connection to record video to the cloud and view the camera live from a smart device. A wireless security camera can work as long as it is connected to high speed internet and has a strong enough WiFi signal to connect. The recommendation is to have at least a 70% wireless signal strength for the security camera to work well.

Do wireless security cameras record all the time?

Wireless Alarm.com cameras typically record 30-40 second short clips when specific events are detected (ex. a person walks up a driveway, a vehicle is detected, an animal is detected in the backyard, etc.) The clips are saved in the cloud but if an SVR (Stream Video Recorder) is added, it can allow for local 24/7 recording as well.

Do I need WiFi for wireless security cameras?

Wireless security cameras require WiFi over a continuous high speed internet connection to function properly. There are only a few solutions to get security cameras that do not require WiFi or an internet connection. The best solution for this is to get hardwired cameras that can be viewed locally on a monitor.

How is the video service encrypted for user privacy?

All video streams, as well as any video device commands, are sent over a VPN connection using bank-grade AES-256 encryption. This means that even if there is no security on the local Wi-Fi network (or if the local Wi-Fi network is compromised), cameras always connect over a high-security path, using either the VPN or through HTTPS. The cameras employ password protection to prevent access from outside the Alarm.com website, with the cameras employing advanced MD5-based digest authentication for user authentication.

I had a minor issue with the installation. They immediately called me and did their best to fix the problem. I really appreciate their efforts. This is the difference in customer service of privately owned small/medium businesses vs large enterprises like Telus/ADT, Bell, Rogers. CSP actually tries to solve the problem ASAP as opposed to big companies transferring you to 10 different people and doing nothing.

I did extensive research on security and alarm monitoring companies, and CSP was fantastic. From my research, CSP was in my top 5 places to get more information, and their customer service and product options were the best. While CSP's monitoring fees are on a par with some other companies, the big selling factor for me was that equipment was free (saving me at least $500). From the get-go, I received an immediate reply to my initial query (some other places didn't even call or write back for a couple of days). Via email and on the phone, Katie was extremely helpful, and tolerated my never-ending questions (thanks so much, Katie!). She arranged an appointment for my system to be installed immediately, on a Saturday. The technician, Hardeep, was prompt, friendly, and helped me determine the best way to set up my system for maximum benefit. Although many people are opting to DIY security with self-monitoring, if it's a monitored system you're looking for, go with CSP. I've already done the research for you! 😉

Pros: This company has very fast installation and their office manager Chelsee is professional, helpful and an excellent communicator. Cons: When the business where I was working went under and unexpectedly closed they asked for an incredibly unreasonable cancellation fee (full buyout of the 3 year contract), which was not explicitly stated in their contract. When trying to reach out to them to resolve the matter, whomever is responsible for the "CSP billing” account is completely unresponsive and unwilling to provide details of their cancellation policy or answer any questions at all. To say the least, this individual was very unprofessional and borderline shady to be perfectly honest. Additionally, a “supervisor” decided to involve a 3rd party whom they had a personal relationship with and started discussing the terms of our contract with them. It was a very bizarre situation in which said supervisor essentially didn’t want the contract broken to appease some building manager (unaffiliated with the business directly) they were buddies with. All in all it was a very strange and sketchy experience and I would not recommend getting involved with this company. If you do, ensure you read your contract thoroughly and have them clearly state their cancellation policy upfront. Also basics of customer service is to identify yourself, it was beyond frustrating to talk to "CSP billing" without knowing the name of the person I'm conducting financial transactions with, even when I explicitly asked for their name to avoid confusion or miscommunication as I was getting mixed answers, again no response. This individual/department is either sketchy or needs some serious training. They were very efficient sending the invoices to collect payments though. The email threads are there for them to review and hopefully they can do better next time. Response: Not surprised by your response, it aligns with your "no fault approach" to things. I NEVER identified myself as the business owner in any of our communication either verbal or in writing, this is a straight up lie and you're just protecting your image without actually working on improving things. I explicitly told you over the phone that I'm the manager and in fact the contract has the name of the owners as I explained to you over the phone. All my communications were also signed as a manager not owner. Maybe if you were not in such a rush to sign a customer up you'd have done things properly and demanded the signature of the owners not an employee as a guarantor. Your alleged upper management called me once and left a "call me back" vague voice mail without indicating what the call is in regards to and then followed to call me back again on the SAME day 6:33PM after normal working hours for most people, very professional as usual. Why on earth would I want to speak with you or your employees again? You didn't answer my email asking about the cancellation policy, didn't answer my email when I asked for a name, didn't answer my email when I asked to pay a 6 month cancellation fee (my attempt to negotiate to resolve things, which you seemed unwilling and instead preferred to continue your bullish approach to force me as an employee to pay the full 3 year contract out). You also didn't answer my email inquiring about why you did a back-to-back attempt to collect payments, knowing the 1st one was NSF. I even happily paid this absurd $100 NSF fee simply to rid myself of you and not have to deal with your extremely unprofessional company further (only one payment withdrawal was approved by me, for the record). My review is fair and objective, you're defensive and don't want to acknowledge your shortcomings as a company. Please stop harassing me and calling me, I want nothing to do with you or your company again.

He was so informative and helpful, took the time to explain things and show me the set up and how to change or fix everything. He went above and beyond and if I could give 10 stars I would! This is an updated review. It is rare to find a company that is responsive and keeps trying until they get it right. This is that company. We had a really bumpy start. It took three installation attempts to get it right. However, the whole team was involved in driving towards customer satisfaction. Our installation technician, Patrick, and the office team followed up repeatedly. Ultimately, a happy customer, so I am updating this review. The bottom line is that this team is not going to leave you stranded.

Being new Immigrants to Canada, a lot of the basic things in life look like a challenge to us. After purchasing our first home in Hamilton, Canada, we looking to install a security in our home for our safety as we do spend time away at time. Katie from CSP for the first person to reach out to us when we put in a request and quote. Choosing the right alarm company is a daunting task but right from the onset Heather was informative and unbelievably helpful. Heather helped me with my choices, advised and made sure that my alarm needs were met. She was always available , personable and if she said she was sending me something... then she did. All of this made me feel confident in my choice of company and I could quickly see why the reviews were so great. The Alarm specialist arrived on time, did a great job of fitting everything,no ugly wires, everything looks great and works perfectly. He was great as well. A chirpy soul who explained everything. I was originally with bell and my wife and I had an horrible experience with there team and technician. We canceled our service and went straight to Canadian security. The reason I chose this company was when I called to inquire about there services and prices Katie was easy to talked to, I told her about our previous experience and assured me that they will do better. With in a couple of days they sent their technician Tamim to setup my alarm from top to bottom, Tamim is very knowledgeable about his profession and very honest about any question I asked. He made me aware of everything that needed to be known and you can tell he just cares about giving you the best experience. Excellent, knowledgeable, friendly customer service. Katie very patiently answered each and every question that I had. Provided alternatives and lots of options. Phenomenal service and package for such an amazingly low price. Patrick is AMAZING! He's so very friendly and helpful! I cannot say enough of about how this technician explained things to me, on how everything works. He expertly installed a wireless, keyless door lock, alarm system with cameras, glass break sensors and flood detector. He set up the app on my phone and laptop. He showed me how to use each and every feature the app, on my phone and laptop. He explained how the wireless system works between the keyless lock and alarm system and my phone. I took me a few tries to get everything understood and working properly, and Patrick was right there every step of the way to ensure that I fully understood each option and feature. He even helped to trouble shoot some problems on my cellphone with regards to using the app. It was Patrick that suggested the wireless, keyless, PIN PAD lock for my front door, when I explained my concerns about falling and not being able to get to the front door to unlock it for Emergency Responders, after I was shown how I can call for help at the push of a button with my new security alarm app on my phone. I feel so very reassured that no only is my house protected and monitored, but in case of injury/fall, I can call for help and unlock the front door all at the same time. Between the cameras, two-way monitoring, glass break alarms and flood sensors, I feel that I am more than sufficiently protected while in my house and away from home. The only other feature that I should probably add is the fire and carbon dioxide detectors that are also monitored. For the price, there's no reason really why I shouldn't. Amazing service, amazing value, amazing company!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank your exceptional CSR who assisted me. During the early morning of January 6th at around 04:30, the carbon monoxide alarm at my house went off. I was immediately contacted by a member of your operating department inquiring if everyone in my household was alright. The lady was very patient, courteous, professional and calm. After ascertaining I was well and assessing the situation, she dispatched the fire department and instructed me to open doors and windows. When the fire department arrived, they confirmed there were high levels of carbon monoxide in the house. Needless to say, I am extremely grateful and thankful for the assistance your CSR gave me that night. I really satisfied with the overall experience with CSP. Katie from the sales office is very responsive. She answered all my questions overs the phone and by email. Tamim installed the system in my house. He is a friendly and knowledgeable person in this field who explained all the installation possibilities for the devices so I can decide. I totally recommend CSP. Thank you 🙂
