Onboard Recording

Onboard Recording

Adding Onboard recording to your service plan allows your camera to capture 24/7 continuous recording by using a high-quality SD card designed for surveillance. Our standard option uses a 128GB SD card, but you can upgrade to the maximum storage of 256GB. The original date recorded is retained until the card is full, and then the oldest data is automatically deleted to make room for new recordings. The recorded video is encrypted and can only be viewed when the SD card is in the camera that recorded the video. You can view the recorded video on your local network or remotely using a computer, smartphone, or tablet.

Wireless security camera systems work by detecting activity, recording video, and sending instant alerts to your phone so you can monitor your property in real time.

Video Analytics

Get smarter video alerts on what’s most important to you.

Video Analytics distinguishes people from animals, vehicles, or objects and enhances perimeter security and property awareness. Get a video alert if someone lingers at your door, a car enters your driveway, or your naughty pet jumps on the sofa. With Video Analytics, false motion recordings are reduced significantly.

We also protect your home 24 hours 7 days a week, through professional alarm system monitoring, so you can continue living your life with confidence. If a break-in, fire, or emergency occurs, our monitoring centre is notified and will contact you while coordinating with the appropriate emergency services as needed.

Wireless security camera systems are the newest advancement in security technology, keeping you, your family or business safe around the clock and during any emergency. Our cameras, like all of Canadian Security Professionals' products, meet our high standards so they perform at their best and maintain the security of your property.

How Do I Choose The Best Wireless Security Camera System For My Home?

Choosing the best wireless security camera system starts with understanding your property layout, monitoring goals, and the areas that require the most protection. Focus on the areas you want covered, the alerts you need, and whether you prefer motion clips or 24/7 recording.

Indoor Vs Outdoor Coverage Planning

Start by identifying primary entry points, like front and back doors, garage entrances, and windows near ground level. Then, check for hidden areas or blind spots around the property. Indoor wireless security cameras should focus on hallways and main access paths, while wireless security camera outdoor models should cover driveways, fences and gates to reduce gaps.

Wireless Home Security Camera System Recording Options

Our cameras use advanced AI analytics to capture clips when meaningful activity is detected, including people, vehicles, or animals. This helps minimize false alerts and unnecessary recordings while improving search and review. For high-traffic environments or situations where uninterrupted footage is preferred, continuous recording may be the better option.

Wi-Fi Range And Power Considerations

Before installation, test the signal strength at each planned wireless security camera location. Avoid placing devices in dead zones or behind dense walls. If coverage is weak, use a mesh network or extender. Ensure every camera has nearby power access or consider wireless outdoor security cameras with battery support.

Where Should I Install Outdoor Security Cameras For The Best Coverage?

Place your outdoor security cameras near all entry points, driveways, and walkways. Mount them 8–10 feet high for visibility and tamper resistance. Avoid direct sunlight and obstructions. Overlapping views help eliminate blind spots. For comprehensive property coverage, consider a wireless security camera system with both fixed and wide-angle lenses.

Front Door, Driveway, And Garage Placement

Install your outdoor security camera above the front door to capture faces and track packages. In driveways and garages, position wireless exterior security cameras to monitor vehicle activity and license plates. These high-value zones are essential in any wireless security system plan.

Backyard, Gates, And Side Yard Placement

Place your wireless outdoor security cameras to cover rear entrances, gates, and side paths. These are often overlooked zones where intrusions can happen. Proper angles and overlapping coverage from security camera wireless systems ensure no area goes unmonitored.

Mounting Height And Viewing Angles

For best performance, cameras are typically installed 8 to 10 feet above ground to balance security and clear field of view. Proper positioning helps improve AI-based detection of people, vehicles, and animals, while steep angles may limit coverage and reduce recognition effectiveness.

Are Wireless Internet Security Cameras Secure And Reliable?

Yes. Modern wireless security cameras use encrypted video transmission, secure cloud storage, and protected mobile apps to keep your footage and data safe. Built-in backup features can maintain recording during outages. A well-installed wireless home security camera system keeps your data safe and provides peace of mind without sacrificing usability.

Protecting Accounts And App Access

Secure your wireless security cameras by setting strong passwords and enabling two-factor authentication. Share access only with trusted users, and review app permissions regularly. These steps reduce vulnerabilities in any wireless security camera setup.

What Happens If Wi-Fi Goes Down

If Wi-Fi disconnects, outdoor wireless security cameras with onboard storage or an SVR will continue recording. While alerts and remote access are paused, all footage is saved locally and synced later. This makes Alarm.com wireless security cameras more reliable for continuous protection.

Choosing Between Standalone Video And Full Wireless Security Systems

Standalone wireless security camera setups are great for visual-only monitoring. But for full protection—break-in alerts, automation, and smart integration—a complete security alarm system gives you a single interface and more control.

Canadian Security Professionals provides wireless security camera systems for homes and businesses, offering real-time monitoring, video recording, and smart alerts for complete property protection.

FAQ

How far can a wireless security camera transmit?

A wireless security camera requires a plug to get power, and a WiFi connection to record video to the cloud and view the camera live from a smart device. A wireless security camera can work as long as it is connected to high speed internet and has a strong enough WiFi signal to connect. The recommendation is to have at least a 70% wireless signal strength for the security camera to work well.

Do wireless security cameras record all the time?

Wireless Alarm.com cameras typically record 30-40 second short clips when specific events are detected (ex. a person walks up a driveway, a vehicle is detected, an animal is detected in the backyard, etc.) The clips are saved in the cloud but if an SVR (Stream Video Recorder) is added, it can allow for local 24/7 recording as well.

Do I need WiFi for wireless security cameras?

Wireless security cameras require WiFi over a continuous high speed internet connection to function properly. There are only a few solutions to get security cameras that do not require WiFi or an internet connection. The best solution for this is to get hardwired cameras that can be viewed locally on a monitor.

How is the video service encrypted for user privacy?

All video streams, as well as any video device commands, are sent over a VPN connection using bank-grade AES-256 encryption. This means that even if there is no security on the local Wi-Fi network (or if the local Wi-Fi network is compromised), cameras always connect over a high-security path, using either the VPN or through HTTPS. The cameras employ password protection to prevent access from outside the Alarm.com website, with the cameras employing advanced MD5-based digest authentication for user authentication.

What should I look for when choosing wireless security cameras for my home?

When choosing wireless security cameras, it’s important to understand that Alarm.com Wi-Fi cameras are plug-in powered and connect wirelessly to your Wi-Fi network, not battery-operated. This provides consistent performance without the maintenance issues of battery cameras. Look for features like HDR for clear daytime images, strong encryption, and reliable connectivity. Proper camera placement and Wi-Fi coverage are just as important as resolution to ensure long-term reliability and fewer false alerts.

Can wireless security cameras work with my existing alarm system?

Alarm.com Wi-Fi cameras are designed to work within the Alarm.com security platform and are not universally compatible with all alarm systems. When paired with an Alarm.com-enabled system, our wireless security cameras can work alongside sensors, automation, and alerts in one unified app. CSP can help determine whether your existing system is compatible or if upgrades are needed to ensure full integration and reliable performance.

How reliable are wireless security cameras in areas with weak wifi coverage?

Alarm.com Wi-Fi cameras rely on a stable wireless network, so weak Wi-Fi can affect performance if not properly addressed. Reliable coverage is essential for consistent video recording and timely alerts. CSP evaluates signal strength at each camera location and can recommend network improvements such as mesh Wi-Fi or access points to maintain a stable connection and prevent wireless security cameras from dropping offline.

Which wireless security cameras have the best night vision and two-way audio for home security?

Alarm.com offers multiple wireless security cameras with infrared night vision and clear two-way audio for different use cases:

  • Indoor cameras provide sharp video, reliable night vision, and two-way audio for entrances, living areas, and offices.
  • Outdoor cameras are weather-rated and designed for perimeter security, offering infrared night vision, motion-activated recording, and two-way audio for deterring visitors after hours.

CSP helps select the right camera model based on lighting conditions, coverage needs, and mounting

Do wireless security camera systems offer local storage options instead of cloud?

Alarm.com Wi-Fi cameras primarily use secure cloud video storage, protecting footage even if a camera is damaged or removed and allowing remote access from anywhere.

Optional local recording is available with the proper service plan:

  • Onboard Recording (SD card) allows supported wireless security cameras to record during internet outages.
  • Alarm.com CSVR provides extended local storage using a larger hard drive for longer video retention at an additional cost.

CSP helps configure the right storage setup based on your security and retention needs.
