How does Alarm Monitoring Work?

All of the components of your security system are connected to your central control panel – the brains of the system. The control panel communicates with Monitoring Centres via a communication line like your phone line or a digital wireless network.

When your system is ARMED, monitors the various sensors in your home or business for activity. If a sensor is tripped and no valid user code is entered into the keypad within a specified time, an alarm signal is sent to the Monitoring Centre.

This is when Operators jump into action.

How Alarm Monitoring Work?

If you have the proper devices to monitor for smoke & fire, CO poison, flood and extreme temperature changes, is always monitoring your home for these potential threats. If one is detected, a signal will be sent to the Monitoring Centre to be acted on. Arming and disarming of your system has no impact on this.

Home alarm monitoring is crucial to the success of any security system. Understanding how your monitoring system operates will help you to better grasp the effectiveness of our security systems.

Canada began monitoring Canadians for emergencies in 1956. Since then it has developed and grown its monitoring centres into one of the most technologically advanced monitoring stations in the country, protecting over 1,000,000 homes and businesses with it’s superior home alarm monitoring services.

Monitoring centres combine the very latest in technology with a best-in-class training program for their Emergency Response Operators. With 12 weeks of in-house training and practicum learning, their ERC Operators learn to respond to emergency alarm situations and medical emergencies with precision and professionalism. In addition to this training, all of their operators become certified with the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) and the Security Industry Association (SIA). This means operators are prepared to handle any and every emergency that you may face in your home or business.

Multiple-monitor operator stations, integrated with leading edge response platforms, two-way voice technology and complete customer management systems, ensure that all of the information to handle the situation quickly and correctly is obtained for the operator. This high-end technology ensures a rapid response to any emergency and is cutting edge in home alarm monitoring services.

Through their commitment to excellence, Canada has built and operated their Monitoring Centres to meet the requirements of the Underwriters’ Laboratories of Canada (ULC) and has one of only two Canadian monitoring stations that has earned the prestigious Five-Diamond Certification from the CSAA. To earn this designation displayed proficiency in alarm verification, communication with emergency services and emergency preparedness for a wide variety of scenarios. The CSAA Five-Diamond Certification is seen as the benchmark of excellence for a central station.Dedication to their customer’s, commitment to consistently high-quality products and services, and their desire to continuously strive for higher achievements in the industry make them the best choice for Canadians.

Over the past few years, Canada has invested millions of dollars developing and enhancing their monitoring centres to better serve their customers. Their national network of ULC-listed centres share the same operating software and are connected by a secure and dedicated communication line. This allows each centre to act as a back up in the event of a disaster or outage ensuring your home or business is protected under any circumstances.

Credentials, technology and experienced personnel set them apart from other companies that provide home alarm monitoring services.

What Happens When My Alarm Goes Off?

Within seconds of receiving an alarm signal from a home or business the monitoring centre’s cutting-edge technology gives operators the relevant information they need. This fast response time will ensure the residents of your residential or commercial property receive the help they need before the situation becomes any worse.

In seconds they can determine all of the information necessary to resolve an emergency situation, including:

  • What type of emergency it is.
  • Which local authorities to dispatch, if required.
  • Who to contact.
  • What to do if you’re on holidays.
  • Whether there is a pet in the house.

Operators will have everything they need to know in order to deal with your situation quickly and effectively. Knowing the nature of your situation and who can help will ensure your home or business is taken care of.
