Canadian Security Professionals Inc. (“CSP,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information when you visit our website, contact us, or obtain our products and services.

We handle personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy laws, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and applicable provincial privacy legislation.

1. Information We Collect

The information collected depends on your interactions with CSP and the products and services you use. It may include:

Contact and account information: Names, service and mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, account details, agreements and information needed to verify identity or signing authority.
Billing and payment information: Payment authorizations, transaction records, account balances and payment information provided to us or our payment processors, together with credit information where authorized or otherwise permitted by law.
System and service information: Equipment details, device identifiers, system settings, alarm and trouble signals, service activity, monitoring records, verification and dispatch instructions, and installation or support records.
Authorized-user and emergency-contact information: Names, contact details, account permissions, verification information and instructions associated with persons designated for your services.
Communications: Correspondence, service requests and recordings of telephone or monitoring communications where recorded.
Medical-alert and location information: Where relevant to subscribed services, information about the device user, emergency contacts, location and information provided to assist with emergency response.
Website information: IP addresses, browser and device information, cookie identifiers, pages visited, advertising interactions and information submitted through website forms.

We collect information directly from you and, where appropriate and permitted by law, from authorized representatives, your connected equipment, monitoring and technology providers, payment processors and other parties involved in providing your services.

2. How We Use Information

We use personal information as reasonably necessary to:

Respond to inquiries, prepare quotations and establish or administer accounts.
Install, activate, provide, maintain and support equipment and services.
Process alarm signals, verify events, contact designated persons and request emergency assistance.
Process payments, assess authorized credit applications and collect amounts owing.
Communicate about appointments, account matters, maintenance, service changes and security issues.
Diagnose technical problems, investigate complaints and maintain service records.
Protect accounts, prevent fraud or misuse, resolve disputes and exercise legal rights.
Measure website and advertising performance and conduct marketing where permitted by law.
Meet legal, regulatory and recordkeeping obligations.

Telephone and monitoring communications may be recorded for service delivery, verification, quality assurance, training, security and dispute resolution, subject to applicable notice and consent requirements.

3. Cameras and Connected Services

CSP cannot independently access customer camera feeds or recordings whenever it chooses. Access is only available in the limited circumstances described below. For Alarm.com cameras, a customer may authorize temporary technical-support access that allows authorized CSP personnel to view live camera images during the customer-approved access period. The customer must enable this access, it is limited to the approved access period, and it does not allow CSP personnel to view recorded clips.

Separately, where a customer subscribes to Visual Video Verification, authorized monitoring personnel may review alarm-related images, video clips and, where permitted by the service, live video for the purpose of verifying alarm events and handling the applicable alarm response. This access is limited to the visual information and access permitted by the customer’s selected service and signed agreement and does not involve continuous viewing or monitoring of the customer’s cameras.

Depending on the equipment and features used, video, audio, device activity, access-control events and other information may be processed or stored by the relevant technology platform to provide the customer’s services. Processing by a platform does not mean CSP can view all information stored on that platform. Customers control the users and permissions they make available through their systems and applications. Customers are responsible for obtaining any notices, permissions or consents required for their own use of cameras, audio recording, access-control systems and other connected features.

4. Consent and Privacy Choices

We obtain consent where required by law. The appropriate form of consent depends on the sensitivity of the information, the purpose and the circumstances. We seek express consent where required, including for sensitive information where appropriate. Applicable law may permit or require certain collection, use or disclosure without consent.

You may contact us to withdraw consent, subject to applicable legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. We will explain any consequences for your services. Withdrawing consent for information necessary to provide a particular service may affect our ability to continue that service.

Choosing not to receive optional marketing does not, by itself, affect your monitoring services. You may unsubscribe from promotional electronic messages using the instructions provided in the message or by contacting us. Necessary account, billing and service communications may continue.

Where someone provides information about another person, such as an emergency contact or medical-device user, that person must have the necessary authority and provide any required notice or obtain any required consent. Paying for another person’s service does not automatically authorize access to that person’s personal information.

5. When We Share Information

We may disclose personal information as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy to:

Monitoring centres, installers, technicians and other service providers.
Equipment manufacturers, technology platforms, communications providers and software, hosting or account-management providers.
Payment processors, financial institutions, authorized credit-reporting agencies and collection providers.
Emergency contacts, emergency responders and other persons designated or authorized in connection with the services.
Professional advisers, insurers, regulators, law enforcement or other parties where authorized, required or permitted by law.

We do not sell or rent personal information to third parties for their unrelated marketing purposes. Website advertising activities are described separately below.

Information may also be disclosed in connection with a proposed or completed sale, assignment, merger, financing, reorganization or other business transaction involving CSP or its customer accounts, subject to applicable legal requirements, confidentiality protections and any required notification or consent.

6. Service Providers and Information Outside Canada

Some service providers may process or store personal information outside your province or outside Canada. Information processed in another jurisdiction may be subject to that jurisdiction’s laws, including lawful access by courts, law enforcement or governmental authorities.

Using a service provider does not remove CSP’s responsibilities under applicable privacy law. Where providers process information on our behalf, appropriate contractual or other protections are required. You may contact us for further information about our use of service providers and processing outside Canada.

7. Website Cookies and Advertising

CSP uses Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising (Bing Ads) to advertise its services. Our website and advertising providers may use cookies, pixels and similar technologies to measure advertising performance, understand website activity and display relevant advertisements, including advertisements to people who previously visited our website.

Information used for these purposes may include IP addresses, browser and device information, cookie identifiers, pages visited and interactions with advertisements. This information is not necessarily anonymous and may constitute personal information.

Browser settings can restrict or delete cookies, and Google and Microsoft offer controls for certain personalized advertising activities. Available controls differ by browser, device and provider, and restricting cookies may affect website features. Disabling personalized advertising does not necessarily stop all advertisements or all measurement activity.

8. Retention of Information

Cancelling services or marking an account inactive does not automatically delete the associated information. Account, agreement, billing, communication and service records may remain after cancellation for legitimate purposes such as addressing disputes, collecting outstanding amounts, meeting legal or accounting requirements and establishing the history of services provided.

Applicable retention requirements depend on the information and its purpose. Information held by monitoring centres and other providers may be subject to different retention arrangements and applicable legal requirements.

Retention remains subject to applicable privacy law, including requirements concerning information that is no longer needed. You may contact us about retained information or request deletion where applicable. Some information may need to be retained despite a request, and cancellation does not itself create an entitlement to immediate deletion of every record.

9. Protecting Information

CSP is responsible for maintaining safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the personal information it handles. These include appropriate physical, organizational and technological protections against unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration or loss.

No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. This does not limit CSP’s obligations under applicable privacy law.

Customers should protect their passwords, verification information and account credentials, review authorized-user permissions and promptly notify us of suspected unauthorized account access.

10. Access, Corrections and Complaints

You may contact us to request access to your personal information, request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information, ask about our privacy practices or raise a privacy complaint.

We may need to verify your identity and authority before responding. Requests are subject to applicable legal requirements and exceptions, including protection of other individuals’ information. Where access or another request is refused, we will provide an explanation and information about available recourse as required by law.

You may also contact the applicable federal or provincial privacy commissioner.

11. Other Websites and Platforms

Our website may link to third-party websites, applications or platforms. Their own privacy policies explain their practices. We encourage you to review those policies when using their services.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices, services or legal requirements. The current version will be posted on our website with its last-updated date.

Where required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before using personal information for a materially different purpose. Posting an updated policy does not, by itself, replace any required consent.
