Crystal Beach is a community in Bay Ward, to the west of Ottawa Ontario. Before its amalgamation in 2001, Crystal Beach was a part of the City of Nepean. The community was established in the mid-1960s, and the developer behind the initial construction was Minto Developments Inc. The homes in the community are modeled after the original five houses in the area, to help the new development fit with the existing architecture. In 1974, townhouse developments sprang up on Corkstown Road through Carling, with other developments around Maki Park in 1988.
The community covers a triangular area with clear boundaries in three key areas: Carling Avenue to the northeast, Corkstown Road to the south, and Moodie Drive to the west. Generally, the Crystal Beach / Lakeview Community Association comprises the regions established by 1988, as well as newer areas built by Garand Homes and the Rocky Point neighbourhood north of Carling and the Lakeview neighbourhood south of Corkstown.
Crystal Beach is a largely residential neighbourhood with a population of around 2,416 according to the 2011 Canada Census. The region is a relatively tight-knit community and includes some of the more sought after real-estate in Ottawa.
Part of the neighbourhood’s appeal is because of its proximity to the Andrew Haydon Park, Nepean Sailing Club, Ottawa River, the Carling Campus, easy access to Highway 417 (the Queensway), the award-winning community design to ease traffic congestion, great recreation facilities, quality schooling, and the community centre.
But perhaps the small town charm is due to the fact that the neighbourhood is located on the north shore of Lake Erie and lies within the Town of Fort Erie, plus it is a simple 20-minute commute from Niagara Falls, Buffalo NY, Port Colborne, and Welland.
With so many great features, it is no wonder that many of the homes in Crystal Beach are summer cottages. If you walk or drive through the grids and circles of this neighbourhood, you will notice the large number of occupied or freshly renovated or rebuilt houses. In the last couple of years, investors have been buying run-down homes – seldom used second homes – and flipping them.
Many summer cottages in the community have been winterised, updated, and re-sold as year-round houses. Whether you occupy your Crystal Beach home year round, or prefer to use it as a second home for holidays, you will want to keep your family and possessions safe at all times. With the help of Canadian Security Professionals, you can have peace of mind in knowing that your cottage is protected whether your family is here or elsewhere.
According to crime statistics published in a report following a survey by the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR), the crime rate in Crystal Beach is fairly low in terms of the crime severity or the seriousness of individual offences.
The main crimes against people include assaults, robbery, sexual violations, and intimidation, while those against property include theft, fraud, breaking and entering, and mischief.
